Gaza Arabs look to repeat Hizb'allah successes

MK warns terrorists smuggling missiles into coastal strip

Senior Israeli lawmaker Avigdor Lieberman warned Wednesday that Gaza-based "Palestinian" terrorists are preparing to escalate their war on Israel after being encouraged by Hizb'allah's successes in the north.

Speaking to Arutz 7 Radio, Lieberman said:

The terrorists in charge of the Palestinian Authority are "smuggling Katyushas and Grad missiles into the Gaza Strip. The southern Lebanon script must be prevented in southern Israel."

Gaza-based terrorists have already shown their willingness to bombard southern Israel with heavy barrages of Kassam rockets. But Katyushas offer improved accuracy and pack a far bigger punch than the homegrown Kassams, which has become the Palestinian Arabs' primary weapon in their nearly six-year-old terrorist offensive.

Those to the right of Israel's political spectrum have blamed Israel's hasty May 2000 withdrawal from southern Lebanon, which the Arab world saw as a victory for Hizb'allah, for encouraging the "Palestinians" to launch the Al Aqsa Intifada, or "Oslo War."

Israel's failure to defeat Hizb'allah now appears to be having a similar effect, according to the results of a public opinion poll published this week that showed a full 97 percent of "Palestinians" back the Lebanese terror group in its war with Israel. It also revealed that a majority of "Palestinians" no longer feel Hamas needs to alter its position regarding Israel's destruction, as well as a drastic decrease in the number of those who desire a final peace settlement with the Jewish state.
