Olmert to face probe over political appointments
Source: Ha'aretz
September 03, 2006
Israel's State Comptroller intends to recommend a criminal investigation into political appointments made by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert when he was minister of trade and industry under Ariel Sharon.
According to the charges, Olmert and his chief of staff created lucrative management positions for Likud Central Committee members in the ministry's Small Business Authority.
The action, which came at a time when Olmert was very unpopular with the central committee, cost Israeli taxpayers and the terror-battered economy hundreds of thousands of dollars.
