Israel rules out Syria talks
Source: Associated Press
September 04, 2006
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni Sunday ruled out peace talks with Syria at this point, insisting Damascus must make the first move by ending its support for "Palestinian" and Lebanese terror groups.
Following the recent Lebanon war, some international powers suggested Israel offer to restart negotiations with Syria over control of the Golan Heights as an incentive for Damascus to stop supplying Hizb'allah with arms.
Syrian dictator Bashar Assad has repeatedly stated that only a full surrender of the Golan will be acceptable to his regime.
