Clash erupts between pro-Israel and pro-'Palestinian' Christian groups

Verbal warfare has erupted between Jerusalem-based anti-Israel Arab clerics and pro-Israel Christian organizations after the former released a public statement August 22 in which they accused Christian Zionists of heresy.

It was not the first clash between the two groups. Like most of their fellow clergy in the Arab world, "Palestinian" church leaders subscribe to an anti-Semitic theology which holds that the Jews are no longer God's chosen people.

Their fury at the insistence of Bible-believing Christians that the Land of Israel remains the rightful inheritance of the People of Israel has been expressed in a number of rather un-Christian statements released to the press in recent years.

The latest broadside was signed by Roman Catholic Patriarch Michel Sabbah, Syrian Orthodox Archbishop Swerios Malki Mourad, Anglican Bishop Riah Abu El-Assal, and Lutheran Bishop Munib Younan.

In it they falsely asserted that Christian Zionism was a relatively new sectarian position held by individuals hungry for Armageddon.

Rebutting them,the International Christian Embassy, Bridges for Peace and Christian Friends of Israel noted that from the earliest days of Christianity believers had been anticipating the Jews' ultimate restoration to their land.
