Knesset wants full probe of Olmert's wartime leadership

The powerful Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Tuesday demanded a full state inquiry into the Olmert government's handling of the recent Lebanon war.
Eight committee members supported the motion, while three voted against.
The committee does not have the authority to order a commission of inquiry, but its recommendation will carry a lot of weight when the Cabinet votes on Sunday for or against Olmert's own proposal to conduct three separate watered-down investigations.
A full state commission of inquiry would be headed by a senior lawmaker or judge, and have the authority to order the resignation of public officials, including the prime minister.
