Terrorists attack US embassy in Damascus

Terrorists assaulted the US embassy in Damascus Tuesday morning with a car bomb, machine guns and grenades. Four of the attackers were killed, as was a Syrian security official.

The attack was thwarted by Syrian forces. US Marines stationed at the embassy were reportedly not involved in the battle.

Washington has long demanded that Damascus close down local headquarters and training camps belonging to organizations hostile to both Israel and the US. Groups such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine maintain offices and facilities in an near the Syrian capital.
