IDF Lebanon war commander quits

Northern Command chief Maj.-Gen. Udi Adam announced Tuesday that he will resign the moment the last Israeli soldier returns from Lebanon.
Most saw the move as a reaction to Adam being effectively replaced midway through the conflict by Deputy Chief of Staff Moshe Kaplinsky. That decision led to heavy muted tension between Adam and Chief of Staff Dan Halutz.
Adam said he hoped his stepping down would serve as an example for all those responsible for Israel's failure to meet its war goals. He also expressed confidence that investigations into the handling of the war will reveal many hidden truths about the nation's military and political leaderships.
