Bush: Palestine ?great objective of my presidency?

News item US President George W. Bush said Tuesday he remains unwavering in his commitment to the creation of an Arab state in the heart of Israel?s ancient national home.
He called achieving this goal ?one of the great objectives of my presidency.?
Biblical perspective For behold, in those days and at that time, when I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land. (Joel 3:1-2)
The American leader?s resolve to divide up the Land of Israel, and this despite the persistent and daily proof of the ?Palestinians? refusal to ever accept Israel?s right to exist, is putting America unavoidably in line to face the judgment of a vengeful God.
Prayer point That American Christians, recognizing the grave danger facing their own nation as a result of their president?s wrong dealing with Israel, would cry out to God to intervene; to arrest Mr. Bush in mid-stride and impress upon him the eternal significance of the decisions he is making concerning God's Chosen People and Promised Land.
And that, like a watercourse in the desert, the Lord would cause the heart of the president to be turned 180 degrees; to line up with Israel and take a strong and uncompromising stand on the Jewish nation?s right to its Biblical land heritage.
The full story
Addressing the opening of the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly, US President George W. Bush said Tuesday that the establishment of a State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel was still ?one of the great objectives of my presidency.?
As he has on previous occasions, and notwithstanding the dearth of evidence to sustain his hope, Bush insisted that the Palestine he envisaged would live in peace and security alongside the Jewish state.
He said he was continuing to channel resources towards the realization of this goal, and would look to other western nations to cooperate in the effort.
?I've directed Secretary of State [Condoleezza] Rice to lead a diplomatic effort to engage moderate leaders across the region, to help the Palestinians reform their security services, and support Israeli and Palestinian leaders in their efforts to come together to resolve their differences," he said.
?Prime Minister Blair has indicated that his country will work with partners in Europe to help strengthen the governing institutions of the Palestinian administration.?
Despite the painful setbacks suffered thus far by the American effort to draw the Muslim Middle East out of the Dark Ages, and disregardful of the numerous experts on Islam who have derided as a pipe dream the belief that democracy could eventually take root in these Arab states, Bush said he remained ?optimistic.?
By ?supporting the forces of democracy and moderation, we can help Israelis and Palestinians build a more hopeful future and achieve the peace in a Holy Land we all want.?
Shortly before Bush addressed the gathering, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan set the tone for any discussion concerning Israel when he described the strife between Israel and the Arabs as a whole lot more that just one regional conflict among many.
Annan, who was giving his final address before vacating his post in December, said that ?no other conflict carries such a powerful symbolic and emotional charge among people far removed from the battlefield.?
He went on to use his highly influential position to perpetuate the inaccurate, yet universally bought-into, perception of the conflict, saying that people everywhere ?are outraged by [Israel?s] disproportionate use of force against the Palestinians, and by Israel?s continued occupation and confiscation of Arab land.?
Many things, he continued, were contingent on bringing an end to the ?now nearly-40-year-old occupation.?
The resuscitation of international respect for the United Nations
A successful final resolution to the volatile situations in Iraq and Afghanistan,
The successful completion of their missions by the UN?s blue-helmeted forces around the world.
In other words, he told the heads of state gathered before him, bringing an end to the conflict by meeting the Arab demands would positively affect, and was thus a priority for, every nation on earth.
As the Jewish people enter a new year on their calendar the world, following the lead of the United States, and of one mind in the United Nations, appears more ready than ever to see its will imposed on the nation and land of Israel.
