Lebanon wants missiles to down Israeli jets

Lebanon is looking to use the deployment of its forces to southern Lebanon as leverage to obtain advanced anti-aircraft missiles from its European and Arab allies.

According to Lebanon's defense minister, Beirut sees its primary duty as defending the country against "Israeli aggression," rather than eliminating groups such as Hizb'allah that bring death and destruction to Lebanon by provoking the Jewish state.

Defense Minister Elias Murr openly admitted that the missiles he is seeking would be used to shoot down Israeli jets that violate Lebanese airspace.
