IDF: Troops in north permitted to fire beyond fence

An IDF officer said Wednesday that soldiers will now be permitted to open fire on and kill anyone on the Lebanese side of the border deemed to be a threat to their persons or to national security.

Israel has also stated that it will no longer allow violent mass Hizb'allah demonstrations along the border. Participants in such demonstrations risk being shot in the legs if they dare to throw stones at the Israelis.

Israel is still vulnerable, however, to more peaceful demonstrations, which Hizb'allah uses as cover to gain intelligence on IDF movements and deployment.
