Peace Process

Olmert-Abbas summit in the works
Source: The Jerusalem Post
October 09, 2006
A top "Palestinian" official said Sunday that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas could hold direct peace talks within weeks.
Contact between the two men has been suspended ever since "Palestinian" terrorists abducted IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit outside the Gaza Strip on June 25.
The "Palestinians," including Abbas, want Israel to free 1,000 jailed terrorists in return for Shalit.
It remains unclear what the point of talks between Olmert and Abbas would be at this stage, since any agreements they came to would have to gain the approval of the Hamas government.
