Poll: Netanyahu would crush Olmert in early election

If public protest movements manage to force the government to accept a state commission of inquiry into the handling of the Lebanon war, and if that commission finds Prime Minister Ehud Olmert guilty of wrongdoing, Binyamin Netanyahu may be returning to power very soon.
According to the results of a new public opinion poll, if elections were held today, Netanyahu's Likud would win 22 Knesset seats to just 15 for Olmert and his Kadima Party.
Olmert's partners in Labor would also drop to 15 seats, while the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party would increase to 20, giving Netanyahu a natural partner with which to form a ruling coalition.
Netanyahu has been the primary benefactor of Olmert's plummeting popularity in the wake of the Lebanon war and Israel's failure to decisively defeat Hizb'allah.
A similar phenomenon happened in the past, when the public perceived former prime minister Ehud Barak as being unable to adequately deal with the second "Palestinian" uprising, and turned en masse to Netanyahu to lead the nation.
