Rightist Lieberman joins Olmert government
Source: Ynetnews
October 24, 2006
Right-wing Knesset Member Avigdor Lieberman signed an agreement Monday to bring his Yisrael Beiteinu Party into Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's ruling coalition.
Lieberman will be made minister in charge of strategic affairs, and will be tasked with coordinating Israel's efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
The leftist Labor Party, which views Lieberman as an extremist, is not happy about the development, and is threatening to bolt the government.
If Labor pulls out, Olmert will be left with a minority coalition, forcing him to either invite Binyamin Netanyahu's Likud to join the government or face the possibility of early elections.
