Evidence continues to mount proving that last year's abandonment of the Gaza Strip was a costly strategic blunder that will ultimately need to be reversed by an Israeli government.
However, leftist politicians in Israel continue to vascillate on the issue and send mixed messages about the seccurity situatin to the nation.
On Tuesday IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz announced that Israel is contemplating sending forces back into the Strip to comprise a regular presence there.
His statement comes after the IDF's abject failure to stem the months of unrelenting Kassam rocket fire at Jewish communities in the south.
It also follows revelations that the violence-bent Palestinian Arabs have burrowed a warren of tunnels underneith Gaza through which they have smuggled masses of weapons and tons of explosives.
Barely had Halutz suggested this response to the growing threat, however, when Defense Minister Amir Peretz moved in to allay the fears of left-wing Israelis.
Israel has "no intention of reoccupying the Gaza Strip," he declared.
