Rice demands end to Hizb'allah armed rule
Source: Associated Press
October 29, 2006
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in an interview with Lebanese television Friday that Hiz'ballah must be disarmed and not permitted to continue ruling southern Lebanon.
Rice reminded listeners that one of Lebanon's primary obligations under the UN resolution that ended this summer's war with Israel is the disarming of Hizb'allah.
She also insisted that Lebanon stop allowing Hizb'allah to rule southern Lebanon as a private fiefdom, from where it threatens the Jewish state with impunity.
Normal countries, Rice noted, do not allow private militias to rule portions of their territory.
