Hamas says new government won't recognize Israel
Source: Reuters
November 14, 2006
A senior Hamas spokesman made clear on Tuesday that the terror group, which controls an absolute majority in the "Palestinian" parliament, will not allow any Palestinian Authority unity government to recognize Israel or conclude a peace agreement based on the two-state model.
PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas has been trying to fool the international community into believing that a unity government headed by an independent candidate would not represent the violent anti-Israel policies of Hamas.
Until Abbas can convince Washington and its allies that that is true, an economic embargo on aid to the PA is expected to remain in place.
