Evangelicals: Supporting Israel is 'God's foreign policy'
Source: New York Times
November 16, 2006
The burgeoning evangelical support for the State of Israel is increasingly dividing the American church.
About a quarter of the US electorate is evangelical, and the pro-Israel churches, groups and individuals among them hold that God will bless America if she helps to protect Israel.
This position worries many left-leaning Americans, who are afraid of how such beliefs could influence US foreign policy.
While the White House apparently allies itself with evangelicals, however, its officials insist that the eschatalogical views of such Christians has no effect on policy making.
