France okays firing on Israeli warplanes

France, one of Europe's most openly anti-Israel and pro-Arab states, has told its soldiers in the Lebanon-based UNIFIL they have permission to fire on Israeli airforce planes.
A high-ranking French military officer reportedly told an Israeli general that France regards IAF reconnaisance flights over southern Lebanon as a flagrant violation of the ceasefire that ended hostilities between Israel and the Hizb'allah last August.
According to that ceasefire, UNIFIL is meant to stop the rearmament of Hizb'allah.
Arms are nonetheless flowing unimpeded across the Syrian border into Lebanon, and the IAF flyovers are aimed at proving and preventing this.
