French mob tries to lynch Jewish soccer fan

France, home to one of the most antisemitic populations in the western (formerly Judeo-Christian) world, was the scene of the attempted lynching of a French Jewish soccer fan Thursday.

A black police officer came to the rescue of Yaniv Hazout after a mob of about 100 people allegedly chased, cornered, and then began to move in on him.

They reportedly hurled antisemitic and racist epithets at Hazout and the policeman.

One of the mob was killed when the policeman opened fire to defend himself and Hazout.

The policeman has been arrested pending an inquiry into the event, which took place following a soccer match in Paris between an Israel and a French team.

Israel's Hapo'el Tel Aviv beat Paris Saint-Germain 4-2.

Israeli supporters of their team were kept in the stadium for an hour-and-a-half after the match ended to ensure that most the local fans had dispersed.
