Prime Minister Ehud Olmert instructed Israel's security forces Sunday mrning not to respond to repeated early violations of a ceasefire that had been hammered out between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
"Israel is a strong country which can allow itself to have the strength to both fight and to also show restraint and to give the ceasefire the posibility to succeed," according to a spokesman for Olmert.
At least five Kassam rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israeli targets after the ceasefire went into affect at 06:00. One missile scored a direct hit on the home of a Jewish family just seconds after they had entered a bomb shelter.
The rocket fire came despite the fact that all the "Palestinian" factions reportedly agreed to the cessation of hostilities.
According to reports, the PA had agreed to stop all forms of violence and terrorism, including rocket firing, "suicide" bombing and tunneling for weapons smuggling.
