Jerusalem slams latest anti-Israel UN resolutions

Like every year, the UN General Assembly on Friday wrapped up its annual three-day conference on the "Palestine Question" by adopting a bevy of anti-Israel resolutions.

In keeping with previous gatherings on the issue, the underlying theme of the six resolutions passed on Friday was a demand for Israel to fully withdraw from all territories liberated in the 1967 Six Day War.

Israel and the US argued that at best, the demand dangerously prejudged the outcome of peace negotiations between the Jewish state and its Arab antagonists.

More than that, such a demand denies Israel its biblical and historic links to Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

Furthermore, it ignores the notion, ensconed in international law, that a nation that captures enemy territory after being dragged into conflict by that enemy is entitled to retain control of the territory in question.

While Israel's Foreign Ministry said it was unphased by what has become a yearly Israel-bashing festival, it did take the opportunity to point out that the UN is making itself increasingly irrelevant to solving the Israeli-Arab conflict.

"These resolutions don't promote peace and don't contribute anything to the Israelis or the Palestinians. The resolutions damage the status of the UN and its capacity to be involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict."
