Netanyahu: Make downing Hamas top priority

Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Wednesday Israel’s number one goal right now should be bringing down the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority.

He spoke hours after an intense day of missile attacks on targets in southern Israel saw at least two teenagers wounded, one of them critically.

“Bibi” – Netanyahu’s popular name – said the Olmert government should immediately end its policy of “restraint” and deal effectively with the Kassam-firing Arabs.

He believed the IDF should deploy its forces back inside the Gaza Strip, and also take control of the Gaza-Egypt border to stop “Palestinian” weapons smuggling into the Strip.

Since Israel withdrew its forces from Gaza in September 2005, an unrestrained flood of arms for terror groups to use against Jews has poured into the area.

The Hamas-led Palestinian Authority saw Israel’s abandonment of Gaza as Allah-sent, enabling the Arabs to intensify preparations for more attacks against Jews.

Meanwhile Kassam rockets have been used on a daily basis for many months to terrorize and try kill Israelis in the south.

Israel honored the recently-signed “ceasefire” with the Palestinian Arabs who, for their part, have repeatedly breached the agreement, and continue sending missiles raining down on Israelis while scoffing at the Olmert government’s inability to stop them.
