Human chain connects Gaza to Israel?s heart

More than 130,000 Israelis Sunday told their government that they stand behind the biblical and historical right of the Jewish people to settle any part of their God-given homeland.
Participants in the demonstration formed a 90-kilometer (56-mile) human chain connecting the Gaza Strip to the heart of Israel – Jerusalem’s Temple Mount - in protest over Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s plan to uproot Jewish Gaza and the settlements of northern Samaria.
They concluded the event by singing Israel’s national anthem, Hatikva, across the breadth of the land. The Zionist song speaks of the Jews’ 2000-year hope of returning to and resettling their ancient native soil.
Some 30 members of Knesset, including Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, took part in the protest, as did numerous Christian supporters of Israel.
Smaller solidarity chains were formed in cities around the world.
