New minaret planned to tower over Golden Gate

By Stan Goodenough
January 26, 2007

Four Muslim minarets already dominate the Temple Mount, holiest site to Jews and Bible-believing Christians.

Plans are being drawn up, however, to build a fifth platform from which to sing out praises to Allah - the god of Islam.

If erected, the new minaret will stand guard over the Golden Gate - the sealed entrance to the mount many believe will be opened when Messiah comes.

Aware of this belief - which contradicts their own - Muslim authorities have historically taken a series of steps to thwart such a "coming."

The decision to install an Islamic graveyard right outside the gate, and the use of the gate structure itself as a school for study of the Koran, are two examples.

Islam desecrates the Temple Mount (Mount Moriah). Its adherents contest Jewish claims to the place on every level, saying that Abraham went to sacrifice Ishmael, and not Isaac, there.

Arab leaders, including the late Yasser Arafat, have brazenly denied that Israel's first and second temples stood on the site.

Muslims insist that the entire Temple Mount is one big mosque, and forbid Jews and Christians from praying on it.

Israel's governments have supported the intolerant Islamic position against their own people and visiting Christians.

So far the Olmert administration has not registered any objection to the plans to build minaret number five.
