Palestinian Arabs

Civil war in Gaza as terrorists kill each other

Source: The Jerusalem Post
January 28, 2007

Violence raged in Gaza at the weekend as Arabs who have long lived by terrorism died by terrorism, and some too young to have learned violence themselves were also killed.

At least 25 Arabs, among them an infant and a six-year-old, were killed, and dozens more were wounded as members of the two Palestinian terror groups, Hamas and Fatah, attacked one another.

Gaza City streets were deserted as hundreds of thousands of people cowered away from the worst inter-"Palestinian" fighting since voters gave Hamas a majority of seats in the Palestinian Authority last year.

The violence fractured whatever progress Hamas and Fatah had made to overcome the tension-laden differences between them.

Hamas has accused Fatah - the largest faction in the PLO - of siding with the US against their own Arab brothers and accepting millions of American dollars in aid to bolster them against Hamas.

The Bush administration has unabashedly supported Fatah and Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas while denouncing Hamas.

On her recent visit to the Middle East, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice persuaded Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to give $100 million in held-back "Palestinian" taxes to Abbas.

The condition was that Hamas was forbidden to handle the funds, which will reportedly be used to pay members of the Fatah security forces while Hamas "troops" remain without an income.
