'Israel don't fret; if Iran nukes you Tehran will be razed'

By Stan Goodenough
February 01, 2007

Israel shouldn't be overly concerned if Iran acquires a nuclear bomb or two, Fench President Jaques Chirac said this week.

And even if the mullahs succeed in nuking Israel [which woud be the end of israel - Ed.] it would not be the end of the world.

For Tehran would immediately be razed from the face of the earth.

Realizing that he had said too much, the proudly pro-Arab Frenchman wanted to take it all back, and issued a summons to the same journalists who had recorded his on-the-record statements, telling them he'd made a mistake.

But his "slip" was faithfully reported Wednesday in The New York Times.

According to an analysis by the paper, what bothered Chirac was not what he had said concerning Israel, but that he had revealed holding a position contrary to official US policy on the Iraqi nuclear program.

Muslim monitors in Israel said the president's belief that "just" one or two atom bombs in Iranian hands need not pose so mortal a danger exposed Chirac's naivete or delusional thinking about Islam.

Far removed from the ideologically-inspired leaders of the former Soviet Union, the Islamic Republic of Iran's clerics teach and believe that the greatest service they can render to Allah is to die in the process of killing Jews.
