Israel's Sharon-appointed police chief brought down

By Ha'aretz
February 19, 2007

Israeli Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi resigned on Sunday after a commission of inquiry found him guilty of misconduct during and after a 1999 murder investigation.

While serving as head of the Israel Police Southern District, Karadi and those serving under him unexplicably failed to effectively investigate the murder of a hospitalized crime boss by a uniformed police officer.

Furthermore, Karadi followed up the botched probe by promoting a police official suspected of having ties to the rival crime family behind the murder.

The Zeiler Commission told Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter that he should not allow Karadi to continue as Israel's top cop, reported Ha'aretz.

Dichter turned around and named Prison Service Chief Warden Ya'akov Ganot as Israel's new police commissioner.

The Karadi affair is one that previously plauged the Sharon family as well.

Former prime minister Ariel Sharon's son, Omri, is suspected of having had a hand in the murder, which was paid for by his friends in the Pariniyen crime family.

It is believed that the murdered man was prepared to expose the extent of Omri's dealings with the Pariniyens.

The police officer used to kill the would-be witness was later assassinated in Mexico.

Right-thinking Israeli lawmakers hailed Karadi's downfall as a further cleansing of the corruption introduced into the system by Sharon, and just punishment for yet another official who backed and participated in the 2005 uprooting of Gaza's Jews.
