Syria, Iran vow unity against US, Zionist plots

Meeting in Tehran at the weekend, Iranian demagogue Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Syrian dictator Bashar Assad pledged closer cooperation in combatting America and Israel.

According to the two men, Washington and Jerusalem are intent on sowing discord between the region's Sunni and Shiite Muslim populations.

Said Assad:

"We shoud cooperate and work to make the public aware of the sinister aims of the United States and Israel."

Recent media reports suggested that Sunni-dominated states such as Syria were moving closer to the US and even Israel amid fears of a nuclear-armed Shiite Iran.

Syria's recent purported peace overtures toward Israel were cited as evidence of this.

Assad's statements in Tehran appear to have given the lie to those reports.
