Russian billionaire to launch Knesset party
Source: Ha'aretz
February 20, 2007
Self-made Russian Jewish billionaire Arcadi Gaydamak had reportedly decided to launch his own political party in Israel.
Gaydamak, who won fame in Israel after paying for the temporary evacuation of Sderot's beleaguered residents, made the decision after commissioning a poll that suggested a party under his banner would win 25 Knesset seats.
Gaydamak is a close friend and ally of Binyamin Netanyahu, who he has endorsed as Israel's next prime minister.
It is rumored that if it materializes, Gaydamak's party would merge with Netanyahu's Likud following the next general election.
