Gaza withdrawal supporter now admits 'mistake'

Former Mossad chief Meir Amit supported former prime minister Ariel Sharon's internationally-backed ethnic cleansing of all Jews from the Gaza Strip in 2005.
Now he insists that move was a grave mistake.
To support his about-face, Amit points to the fact that Israel was sold on "disengagement" with promises that Gaza would never be allowed to become a terrorist haven, and that the world would back Israel in responding harshly to any further attacks from the territory.
But today, Gaza is perhaps the world's foremost haven for Islamic terrorists, and rocket attacks from the territory are launched against Israel on almost a daily basis.
Furthermore, the few times that Israel has attempted to deal with the ongoing terror in a very limited manner the Jewish state was roundly and viciously criticized by the international community.
Said Amit:
"All this makes clear we didn't succeed in Gaza."
