Terror casualties quadruple in four years

The number of Israelis killed and wounded by Arab terrorism over the past four years is three times the number of terror casualties from the preceding 53 years, Israel’s General Security Services chief, Avi Dichter, told the cabinet Sunday.

Between November 1947, when the United Nations voted to partition the land between separate Jewish and Arab states, and the beginning of the Oslo War in September 2000, 4,319 Israeli Jews fell victim to acts of Muslim terrorism.

During the four years of the current “Palestinian”-initiated terrorist offensive an additional 11,356 have been killed, maimed and crippled.

Dichter also reported that the use of women and children in acts of terror has increased sharply in recent years. In 2004, Arab women and children have participated in some eight percent of “Palestinian” attacks against Israeli Jews, up from three percent the year before.

The Jerusalem Post quoted him as saying the terror groups had experienced difficulties in recruiting new male members due to the successes of Israel’s anti-terror efforts, and had as a result been turning more frequently to the “weaker and more impressionable” sectors of society.

Women and children are also more likely to be able to penetrate Israeli security.

The security chief also noted a steady increase in the involvement of Israeli Arabs in attacks against their Jewish countrymen.

In the first seven months of this year, for instance, 32 Arab residents of Jerusalem were known to have been involved in terrorist activity.

Seventeen percent of all Israelis killed during the Oslo War have died in attacks involving Jerusalem Arabs, he said.

Dichter said the number of daily terror warnings remains steady at around 50.
