US funding 'Palestinian' terror-teaching colleges

By Ryan Jones
March 06, 2007

A report in The Washington Times at the weekend revealed that US financial aid continues to bankroll "Palestinian" universities that teach young Arabs to hate Israel and seek its demise.

In 2004, Congress changed the law to prevent US taxpayers' dollars from reaching individuals or entities "involved in or advocating terrorism."

But that didn't stop the US Agency for International Development (USAID) from providing the Hamas-controlled Islamic University in Gaza with more than $140,000 in direct assistance since then.

USAID has also paid for scholarships for 49 "Palestinians" wishing to attend the hate-filled institution.

While congressional leaders have vowed to scrutinize the issue for violations of US law, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack insisted the funding of Islamic University and other similar institutions is kosher.

Speaking to reporters in the wake of the report, McCormack insisted that the Islamic University is itself not directly involved in terrorist activities, and that the 49 students who received US-funded scholarships were carefully screened for terrorist ties.

McCormack did not address the issue of Islamic University's advocacy or glorification of terrorism against Israel.
