US rejects seat on UN Human Rights Council over anti-Israel bias

The US State Department announced on Tuesday that for the second year in a row, America will not seek a seat on the UN Human Rights Council.

The reason given was the council's singular focus on criticizing Israel.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack noted that the council spends all its time trying to find ways to demonize Israel, while oppressive regimes such as Cuba, Myanmar and North Korea totally ignored.

The administration's decision was strongly supported by congressional leaders.
