Israel to US: Stay firm on Iraq

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni both urged the US on Monday to stay the course in Iraq for the sake of regional stability.
Olmert and Livni made their remarks during separate addresses to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Both leaders stressed that an early American withdrawal from Iraq, as proposed by every Democratic presidential candidate, would plunge the region into chaos and greatly increase the chances of regional war.
Livni noted that failing to fully defeat the forces of Islamic extremism would only encourage those forces to escalate their efforts to defeat the US and Israel.
The Israeli position was supported by US Vice President Dick Cheney, who also addressed the gathering.
Ironically, these same US and Israeli leaders do not support sustained warfare until ultimate victory is achieved against the forces of "Palestinian" Islamic extremism.
