Hamas thanks Israel for Gaza pullout

By Ryan Jones
March 15, 2007

Hamas has been showing its appreciation for Israel's retreat of the Gaza Strip by replaying an old clip of its deceased former leader stating that a Gaza pullout would mark the beginning of the end for the Jewish state.

According to Palestinian Media Watch, the clip of former Hamas spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin, who was taken out by an Israeli helicopter gunship in 2004, is being broadcast several times a day on Hamas' Al Aqsa TV.

In it, Yassin insists that the removal of Jews from Gaza is the key to destroying Israel.

He goes on to note that former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon himself once admitted that the fall of Jewish Gaza would mean the fall of Tel Aviv.

"Sharon said yesterday that (the Gaza Jewish town of) Netzarim is like Tel Aviv. Today he says the day is near that Israel will leave Gaza. That's it, it's lost, Tel Aviv is gone. They are defeated, they have no words left," exclaimed Yassin.

Hamas today is doing its best to make sure that Yassin's prediction becomes reality by transforming Gaza into a terrorist haven to rival Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and Hizb'allah-controlled southern Lebanon.

They are doing so with the tacit support of PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas, Egypt, Europe and the United States, all of whom refuse to honor their commitments to Israel that terrorists would not be allowed to flood the area with new weapons.
