Europe eagerly jumps in bed with new Palestinian terror-supporting gov't

By Ryan Jones
March 16, 2007

Israeli officials on Thursday described the platform of the new Hamas-Fatah unity government as a giant step backwards for the peace process.

If so, Europe is only too willing to step backwards with the "Palestinians" to a time when their leaders openly and unabashedly backed terrorism and made no secret of their desire to destroy Israel.

According to Palestinian Authority foreign minister-designate Ziad Abu Amar, the French responded to the news by expressing hope that now "a new page in the relations between the Hamas government and the international community" can begin.

The Italian government issued a statement calling the formation of the "Palestinian" unity government "an important opportunity that should not be missed."

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin welcomed the development as "an important event in terms of consolidation of the Palestinian ranks."

Europe expressed its optimism despite (or perhaps because of?) the openly hostile nature of the new "Palestinian" government's platform vis-a-vis Israel.

The deal states that the Hamas-led government will respect previous agreements between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, but only so far as doing so is in line with what Hamas' own interests.

It also safeguards the Palestinian Arabs' "right" to conduct "resistance" operations against Israel - a common euphemism for terrorism against Jewish men, women and children.

The official platform does not comply with international demands to explicitly recognize Israel's right to exist.
