Uprooting Jews

Jewish community uprooted a second time

By Ryan Jones
March 28, 2007

Some 500 Jews were forcibly removed from the former northern Samaria community of Homesh on Wednesday.

They had arrived at the strategic hill, together with some 2,000 supporters, on Monday to protest the community's destruction in the 2005 "disengagement."

The smaller group of devout, Bible-believing Jews had vowed to remain at the site and reestablish the community, but pledged not to use violence against government forces sent to remove them.

They kept that promise on Wednesday, when 1,000 Border Police officers showed up to cleanse the site of Jews for the second time.

Many refused to leave and had to be carried to waiting buses, but they did not raise a hand against the officers.

Bulldozers were later sent in to tear down the makeshift shelters and tents that had been set up by the group.

There is a growing movement among Bible-believing Israelis that is intent on one day reclaiming those lands their government surrendered to their Arab enemies nearly two years ago.

They point out that even from a secular viewpoint, the withdrawal was a major mistake, since the lands vacated, especially in Gaza, have been transformed into dens of terrorist activity.
