Gaza Jews endure mortar shell barrage

By Jerusalem Newswire Editorial Staff
September 15, 2004

The Jews of the southern Gaza community of Neve Dekalim were made to endure a “Palestinian” mortar barrage during the predawn hours Wednesday, with 19 shells fired at the settlement during a one-and-a-half hour span.

Local residents said it was the most intense Arab artillery attack of the past four years, Arutz 7 reported.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the unprovoked attack. Five buildings in the town’s commercial district were damaged.

The bombardment was launched from the nearby PA-controlled town of Khan Yunis.

Officials from southern Gaza’s Katif Bloc said Wednesday’s attack brought to 4,409 the number and mortar shells and rockets the Palestinian Arabs had fired at the Jews of Gaza during the nearly four-year Oslo War.

On average, more than three shells or rockets are fired at Jewish men, women and children in the Gaza Strip every day.

The Katif Bloc Regional Council has launched an English language website where readers can stay up to date with events from the Strip.
