'Disappointed' Olmert rejects Hamas prisoner list

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has decided to reject the list of terrorists Hamas has asked Israel to release in a prisoner exchange.
The list contained the names of senior terrorists responsible for murdering Israelis.
Israel agreed to release about 1400 prisoners in exchange for Hamas returning kidnapped IDF Corporal Gilad Schalit to his parents.
Opponents of such a "prisoner swap" have documented the number of times terrorists released by Israel in similar deals have gone on to kill more Jews.
Respected Israeli reporter and columnist Carolyn Glick wrote at the weekend:
"All told, the Almagor Terror Victims Association has counted 177 Israelis who were murdered by terrorists who Israel released in prisoner swaps with terrorists."
Olmert appears willing to take that chances with more of his people's lives, however.
All he expressed was "disappointment and reservations" at the choice of a some of the prisoners whose names Hamas put forward.
Negotiations for concluding an arrangement are expected to continue in the coming hours.
