IDF chief wants wider offensive in Gaza

IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi would like to broaded the scope of Israel's military operations against rocket firing Arabs in the terrorist ministate of Gaza.
Ashkenazi, who opposes a massive ground incursion into the Strip, is nonetheless searching for some way to effectively deal with the daily Kassam attacks on Israeli communities in the Negev.
Israel abandoned the Gaza Strip to the terrorists when it unilaterally withdrew in 2005, forcing 9,000 Jews to leave their homes and businesses.
The "Disengagement" was carried out despite numerous warnings from those opposed to it that doing so would result in precisely the type of unrelenting terrorism Israelis are experiencing today.
Since 2001, more than 5000 rockets have been fired from Gaza, with more than 400 hitting the Israeli city of Sderot. Seven Israelis have been killed and more than 400 wounded. Nearly 1,500 buildings in the city have been hit.
While many in Israel believe nothing short of full-scale war will deal with this issue once and for all, the country's leadership is too concerned about international opinion to act to fully protect its own people in this way.
