Israeli security officials resume dealing with terrorists

By Stan Goodenough

It used to be a maxim in Israel – an article of honor – that there were no negotiations with terrorists.

But that was a long time ago, in a different Israel – before weak leaders ignominiously began meeting and making agreements with terrorists whose hands are drenched in Jewish blood.

Now negotiating with and compromising with terrorists is more than accepted, it is expected and even applauded.

Thus did the Israeli media give positive coverage to the resumption Monday of meetings– after a two year hiatus - between Israeli security officials and “Palestinian” terrorists masquerading as security personnel.

The get-together took place in an undisclosed location where the parties “talk[ed] about how to move forward with security cooperation” according to government spokesman Miri Eisen.

Arab officials described the meeting as the latest in a “flurry” of contacts in recent weeks, according to Ynetnews.

Israel’s government, with the full support of the Bush administration, is working to bolster the Fatah component of the Palestinian Authority, especially Fatah and PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas, since Hamas took control of Gaza two weeks ago.

Israel and the US see the end result of this bolstering as being the establishment of an Arab state called “Palestine” on land that belongs to the Jews.

Apparently the focus of the discussions at the meeting had to do with things like how to guarantee the safety of IDF security installations in PA-controlled areas, and where and how PA “security forces” could deploy.

Reports from individuals present at the meeting contained no hint that the Arab side was asked to cooperate in IDF efforts to crack down on terrorism against Israelis from their own side.

Unsurprisingly.
