Future of Jewish people not assured – institute

By Stan Goodenough
July 06, 2007

The Jews have survived two millennia of exile and every effort evil men could conceive to destroy them

Against all odds they have returned to their original homeland and been reconstituted as a nation, thriving in every imaginable field.

And yet, according to a policy planning paper to be presented by The Jewish People Policy Planning Institute in Jerusalem next week, the future of this nation "is not assured."

A second paper highlights one of the reasons for this gloomy outlook: It maintains that the number of Jews on the planet is unlikely to grow in the next 22 years. And it bemoans the fact that "the Jewish people [are] facing a serious problem of high quality leadership, spiritual, political and professional with no clear trend of improvement."

The bleak assessment is shared by many in Israel, who for the last decade and a half have witnessed the erosion of their national security: militarily from the Arab states, the Palestinian terrorist organizations and Iran, diplomatically from the Quartet, and internally from a widely corrupted political leadership.

An increasing number of Jews believe that, within 50 years from now, or less, their state will no longer exist. While there are still Jews of faith, they appear to be diminishing in number as Israel’s enemies grow stronger and more resolved to see them wiped out.

In nations around the world, millions of Christians are convinced that Israel’s future is guaranteed.

Basing their belief on the Bible rather than on the physical evidence, they hold that if God kept His millennia-old promise to preserve a remnant of Jews in the Diaspora and then restore them to the land of their fathers, He will keep His promise to secure them here.

The growing international Christian Zionist movement is working to align itself with Israel in anticipation of a future when it alone will stand with the Jewish people against a God-hating world.
