Egypt: We trust America's intentions

Israeli newspapers Wednesday published photographs of a beaming US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice walking next to Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit following a reportedly successful meeting in Cairo Tuesday.
Rice was said to have been encouraged by Egypt's renewed support for the Israeli-Arab "peace" parley the Bush administration is working hard to host in Annapolis, Maryland next month.
For his part, Gheit said the meeting with the American had given Egypt "a lot of trust and confidence" in what Washington intended to achieve at the conference.
America's main goal at this summit is to see the de facto establishment of some sort of sovereign Palestinian state in the historic and biblical homeland of the Jewish people.
While the final borders and other sticky issues would be subsequently resolved, the creation of "Palestine" - a new country that would immediately be recognized by most of the international community - would be an irreversible step.
It would ensure that US President George W. Bush leaves office having successfully realized part of what he has described as one of his primary foreign policy goals - the establishment of two states for two peoples: "Israel and Palestine side by side."
Egypt - still an enemy of Israel despite its peace treaty with the Jewish state - remains the main regional player in the push towards this theft of Israel's national territory.
Its therefore unsurprising declaration of "trust and confidence" in the US will secure Cairo a high profile position at the conference.
Those same words will have sent chills down the spines of many Israelis who have increasingly lost what faith and confidence they may have had in Bush and Rice.
For the Arab world, the creation of Palestine in the biblical heartland of Israel is only a first step towards ensuring that the Jewish state will ultimately be swallowed by Islam.
Psalm 83 describes the goal of an antisemitic confederacy of Middle Eastern nations whose purpose is to cut Israel off from being a nation so "that the name of Israel may be remembered no more."
