Israeli looking for ways to stop Kassam terror

The Israeli government appeared Friday increasingly desperate to find an effective solution to the waves of terrorist-fired rockets that day after day have been slamming down into the Negev town of Sderot and other Jewish communities within range of the Gaza Strip.

At least 22 Kassams pounded the area before 3.00 pm Friday, responsibility for which was claimed by two "Palestinian" terror groups, the Popular Resistance Committees and the Palestine Islamic Jihad.

Many of the rockets are believed to have been mounted in silos and fired by remote control, a tactic learned from the Lebanese Hizb'allah and which helps the terrorists escape retaliatory artillery or warplane fire.

Speaking to The Jerusalem Post Thursday, a day during which at least 20 rockets and 10 mortars were fired by Gaza's Arabs, unnamed government officials waved a big stick - not for the first time - threatening that Israel may carry out targeted killings of Hamas political (as opposed to "military") officials.

This artificial differentiation, which terrorist organizations frequently exploit to their advantage, has for some reason been respected by Israel, which has often sent missiles into cars carrying rocket-launching gangs while allowing Hamas and other "Palestinian" spokesmen and "political" figures to get away with pushing forward the terror campaign against the Jews.

According to the Post report, the IDF has gradually increased its responses to the rocket firings, including targeting military commanders and other well-known Hamas officials.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who earlier this week vowed to put an end to the rocket firing even if it means the IDF has to conduct a ground operation in Gaza, Thursday warned Israelis they would have to be patient.

"The IDF operations will bring results [but] this will not end today and not tomorrow," he said.

Gaza's "Palestinians" have been firing rockets almost daily for four years. More than 2000 Kassams were sent "into" Israel during 2007.
