FM: 'Palestinian' terrorism no excuse to stop 'peace' talks

March 17, 2008

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Monday that a Palestinian terrorist massacring Israeli children is not enough of a reason to stop conducting "peace" talks with the Arabs.

"Terrorism will not be an excuse to suspend negotiations," Livni said, in the course of defending the government against a no-confidence motion in the Knesset.

This is according to the website of the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz.

In the years since the 1993 signing of the Oslo Accords, consecutive Israeli administrations frequently suspended talks with the PLO after terrorist attacks.

Then PLO chief Yasser Arafat was known to be responsible for green-lighting attacks even as he pretended to be a "moderate" who was sincere about making peace.

His successor, Mahmoud Abbas - who Israel calls its "peace partner" - is likewise suspected of approving Kassam rocket attacks against Israeli towns from Gaza.

Shortly after Livni made her statement, it emerged that she had in fact met secretly with senior "Palestinian" negotiator Afmed Qureia after the March 6 murders of eight religious students in a Jerusalem seminary.

Angry Israelis have denounced the fact that the cold blooded killings gave the government not the briefest pause in its headlong rush to please US President George W. Bush, who is pressuring Israel to secure an agreement with the Palestinian Arabs before the end of this year.
