Anonymous PA official: Peace process is dead

An unnamed member of the PLO-run Palestinian Authority has reportedly written off the land-for-peace process that sees the establishment of an Arab state on Jewish lands as "dead."

According to Ynetnews Tuesday evening, a "senior" PA official said that Israel's impending new government, under a Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, signifies that the diplomatic process "has died."

"Given the government that is going to lead Israel, it's clear that there won't be any serious process and that, at the most, it will be a process for appearances' sake only that is intended to quiet the international community and primarily to let the Palestinians know that the option of peace still exists," Ynet quoted him as saying.

For most Israelis, the death of a process that has cost their nation untold painful concessions and thousands of lives would not be cause for mourning.

Few are likely to be convinced by the anonymous official's lament, however, as "Palestinian" officials frequently sound this sort of alarm in order to spur and increase international pressure on Israel to continue down this path towards "peace."
