6 killed as Israeli goodwill exploited for terror

By Jerusalem Newswire Editorial Staff
January 14, 2005

Palestinian Arab terrorists took advantage of Israeli goodwill and carried off a sophisticated double homicide bomb attack in Gaza Thursday night, killing six Israelis and wounding up to 10 others.

The attack took place at the Karni Crossing, a commercial border zone between central Gaza and the Negev region. Israel had agreed to extend the crossing’s opening hours following a specific request from the Palestinian Authority.

Minutes before the area was to be closed, a massive 150-kilogram bomb concealed in a produce truck on the “Palestinian” side of the crossing was detonated, blowing a large hole in the wall separating it from the Israeli side.

Two “suicide” bombers then infiltrated the Israeli side, setting off their own charges.

The Arabs then directed heavy machine gun and mortar fire at ambulances and military rescue crews sent to extract the casualties.

Several victims were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition, according to media reports.

At press time Israeli forces were reportedly attacking terrorist positions south of Gaza City in response to the Karni assault.
