Uprooting Jews

Sharon may seek disengagement violence

Knesset member Aryeh Eldad told Ynet Monday that “Jewish blood will flow this summer” when Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s forces come to forcibly evict the Jewish residents of Gaza and northern Samaria.

However, it is not the settlers and their supporters that will initiate the violence, but rather Sharon’s enforcers at the behest of the political echelon, Eldad said.

"It's likely [Sharon] will seek to create a very traumatic junction in the early days (of evacuation) in the hope we blink first," the National Union faction MK explained.

Eldad said that has been the assessment of many observers, who believe the prime minister will seek out a violent confrontation early on in order force anti-retreat leaders to call off further opposition.

"It's going to be very bad, I'm not optimistic regarding the summer. It will be such mayhem no one will know who's shooting at who,” the lawmaker said.

Eldad stressed that physical opposition to the evacuation will be non-violent, consisting primarily of a mass gathering of people in Gaza and demonstrations throughout the country aimed at tying up the security forces.
