PA reiterates: Terrorists will not be disarmed

Just in case no one was listening at the weekend, Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Nasser al-Kidwa reiterated in an interview with Reuters Monday that the regime of PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas has no intention of disarming ?Palestinian? terror groups.
That despite Abbas's commitment when accepting the US-backed Road Map to collect unauthorized arms and dismantle the terrorist infrastructure as part of Phase I of the plan.
?Under international law, the Palestinian people have the right to resist this occupation [sic] and defend themselves,? al-Kidwa told Reuters.
When the PLO, under Yasser Arafat, entered into peace negotiations with Israel more than a decade ago, it agreed to eschew violence against Israel, and to resolve all issues through negotiations.
?The PLO commits itself to the Middle East peace process, and to a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and declares that all outstanding issues relating to permanent status will be resolved through negotiations ... the PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence and will assume responsibility over all PLO elements and personnel in order to assure their compliance, prevent violations and discipline violators,? Arafat wrote to former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1993.
The PLO, which controls the Palestinian Authority, has failed for nearly 12 years to honor that pledge.
PA National Security Advisor Jibril Rajoub Tuesday indicated terrorism would again be used as a means to achieve ?Palestinian? goals following Israel's planned retreat from Gaza and northern Samaria.
Rajoub told Israelis they could relax for the time being, as there was a consensus among ?Palestinian? forces to maintain the relative lull in anti-Jewish attacks until after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's ?disengagement? plan has been implemented.
But after the Jews have vacated Gaza and Samaria, ?we?ll be able to consider the matter again, as we did when we agreed on [the current temporary] cease-fire,? the Associated Press quoted Rajoub as saying.
