PA blames Israel for Netanya slaughter

Israel bears sole responsibility for Tuesday's slaughter and maiming of Jewish civilians by a ?Palestinian? homicide bomber at a shopping mall in the coastal town of Netanya, Palestinian Authority Interior Minister Nasser Yousef argued.

In a statement issued shortly after the attack, which killed four Israelis and wounded 90 others, Yousef said Israel's military activity against the ?Palestinian? terrorist infrastructure was the root cause of such atrocities.

At any rate, Yousef insisted, the PA could not be held responsible for the bombing, since the village the 18-year-old Islamic Jihad killer hailed from is under Israeli security control, as is most of Judea and Samaria.

Israeli forces took control of all major ?Palestinian? population centers in Judea and Samaria over the past four years as a result of the PA's decade-long failure to honor its peace commitment to eliminate anti-Jewish terrorism.

Last month, however, Israel returned the Samarian town of Tulkarm to PA security control.

But after learning the Netanya bomber's home is in the nearby village of Atil, IDF forces retook Tulkarm, which the army says has become a hub of Islamic Jihad terrorist activity.

IDF officials said the army would need to remain active in Tulkarm for several days in order to maximize the effect of their incursion.

Both Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz spoke strongly of delivering a powerful blow to Islamic Jihad, a terrorist organization responsible for the murder of many Israelis.
